Are Kevin Drum and James Wolcott really helping their cause by pretending that the Ward Churchill affair is some synthetic controversy from talk radioland? Here's what Churchill actually wrote about the people killed in the World Trade Center on 9/11:

Well, really. Let's get a grip here, shall we? True enough, they were civilians of a sort. But innocent? Gimme a break. They formed a technocratic corps at the very heart of America's global financial empire – the "mighty engine of profit" to which the military dimension of U.S. policy has always been enslaved – and they did so both willingly and knowingly.... If there was a better, more effective, or in fact any other way of visiting some penalty befitting their participation upon the little Eichmanns inhabiting the sterile sanctuary of the twin towers, I'd really be interested in hearing about it.

Just because the comments caused barely a ripple at the time is no excuse for ignoring them now. And trying to compare the remarks to Frank Gaffney's attack on the UN is just silly. (If Wolcott had chosen the wit and wisdom of Ann Coulter, he'd have had a stronger case.)
