Apparently, she's just dropped out of Big Brother.
As far as I can tell, Nick Cohen's "Evening Standard" column - which ran yesterday - isn't on-line, so I thought I'd post his thoughts on the world's greatest living female Australian academic:
"In 'The Female Eunuch', her feminist classic of 1971, a shocked Germaine Greer noted that 'there are hundreds of cases in England where wives to dress up in leather or rubber and beat their husbands'.
What next? A weblog?
"Why would they behave in such a debased manner? Because they want 'security' whatever the cost. Because they will do anything to hold on to their married status, and by doing what other women won't do they can free themselves from the aching fear of loneliness.
"In 2005 Germaine Greer joined the Big Brother House and consented to give the country her views on anal sex, then clambered over vats filled with stale alcohol, cigarette butts, blood and rotting vegetables.
"Why would she behave in such a debased manner? Because she wants celebrity whatever the cost. Because she will do anything to hold on to her star status, and by doing what other women won't do she can free herself from the aching fear of obscurity."
