SENSE OF HUMOUR

"I'd rather wear a burqa than be on a diet..." Stand-up comic Margaret Cho - like most of her MoveOn.org colleagues - is having a hard time adjusting to George Bush's new world order. There was no shortage of Dubya-bashing at Cho's West End show last night, but it wasn't hard to detect a sense of bewildered hurt behind the forced laughter.

Why did Americans vote for the president? Because they're stupid and homophobic, of course. In Cho's world, every Republican is still a redneck at heart. Depressing. Still, the evening was funnier than Cho's dreary DVD, suitably entitled Revolution. (Not that the reviewer from the on-line magazine Chortle was particularly impressed.)

Talking of recovering campaigners, I see Michael Moore has followed Al Gore's example and gone in for a post-traumatic makeover.
