BILL COSBY FOR PRESIDENT

Of the NAACP, that is. Columnist Clarence Page proposes that the entertainer should take the helm of the civil rights organisation now that Kwesi Mfume has stepped down. Cosby became persona non grata in some quarters earlier this year after his outspoken comments about the importance of self-help. Page says he was right:

"Although media had a field day with a few black leaders who thought Cosby was harshly blaming the victim, Mfume, who was on the same stage, told me later he agreed completely with what Cosby said, even if he would not have used the same blunt language. So have most other black folks whom I have heard in discussions, formal and informal..."
