Attlee beats Churchill in a MORI survey of British historians and political scientists. I have a soft spot for Clem, but perhaps this story tells us more about academia than about the PMs. Roy Hattersley was on Channel 4 News this evening to explain why the poll was right. Which, obviously, means it must be wrong. This is known as Hattersley's Law of Punditry.
Incidentally, the BBC put Churchill first in 2000. Attlee came third, behind Lloyd George.
