MORE ON THOMSON

If you are still scratching your head over Alex Thomson's bizarre "Let's embed with the insurgents" op-ed in yesterday's Guardian, his e-mail responses - as reported in the comments section of Harry's Place - seem equally weird. Reader David T. begins by posing the following question to the Channel 4 reporter:

"I did not understand what Christian fundamentals you thought were clashing in Iraq. In what way is the US's conduct in Iraq explicable in terms of Christian fundamentals? Am I missing your point?
He has replied:
Yes - US Neo-Cons - cheers, AT
I pressed him further: Do you believe that US Neo-Cons have waged the war for reasons connected with "Christian fundamentals"? I thought that the US Neo-Cons were supposed to be Jewish?

Alex's answer... "In part, yes - I think that's pretty much a matter of record and openly stated policy."

David T continues: "I'm a bit at a loss, because I wasn't aware that the Neo-Cons were, despite all being Jews (as any fule kno), had openly stated, as a matter of record, that they were waging a war in Iraq for reasons connected with "Christian fundamentals". I'm assuming that he doesn't mean "Christian fundamentals" such as "faith, hope and charity". I don't think he can really mean that Iraqis are being given a choice between conversion to Christianity and death. I'm really not sure what the Christian fundamentals he has in mind are..."
