Music-reviewing duties at the Barbican, where Senegal's Youssou N'Dour delivered one of the most memorable performances of the year. I found it very hard to capture the sheer majesty of the evening in my Times review (registration may be required). All I'll add here is that N'Dour's album, Egypt - a collection of Sufi chants and griot praise songs featuring the Fathy Salama Orchestra - is a must-buy for world music devotees.
